Craps bet

What is your favorite or most reliable craps bet?

Colonel asked:
I love the game of craps, nothing like a hot table. I’m partial to betting the 6 & 8 the hard way along with the field. Oh, and I always bet the pass line.

Answer

While everyone has their personal preferences and strategies when it comes to craps, some bets are generally considered more reliable or offer better odds for the player. The most reliable craps bets with the lowest house edge include:

  1. Pass Line and Come bets: These bets have a house edge of around 1.41%. Pass Line bets are placed before the come-out roll, and Come bets are placed after a point is established. Both of these bets win if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll or rolls the point again before rolling a 7.
  2. Don’t Pass Line and Don’t Come bets: These bets have a slightly lower house edge than Pass Line and Come bets, at around 1.36%. Don’t Pass Line bets are placed before the come-out roll and win if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3, while Don’t Come bets are placed after a point is established and win if the shooter rolls a 7 before rolling the point again.
  3. Odds bets: Once a point has been established, you can make an additional bet called an “odds bet” behind your Pass Line, Don’t Pass Line, Come, or Don’t Come bets. Odds bets have no house edge, making them the best bets in craps. However, they can only be placed in conjunction with the bets mentioned above. The maximum amount you can wager on an odds bet varies between casinos.

Betting on the 6 & 8, like you mentioned, can also be a good strategy, as these numbers have the second-highest probability of being rolled after the 7. However, the hard way bets and field bets have a higher house edge, making them less reliable in the long run.

It’s essential to find a balance between the bets you enjoy and the ones that offer the best odds. By focusing on the most reliable bets and occasionally placing some of your preferred bets for fun, you can maximize your chances of success while still enjoying the excitement of the game.
